Barbara Metcalfe

Barbara Metcalfe, 74, of Ellwood City passed away on Saturday at West Penn Hospital following an ongoing illness.

Born on Feb. 27, 1943, in Harmony, she was the daughter of the late Howard E. and Alice L. Lefever Ziegler.

Barbara was a 1961 graduate from Zelienople High School. While in high school, she was employed with the Ben Franklin Store in Zelienople and later at the Shop 'n Save in Zelienople. For 20 years she was the owner and operator of Metcalfe Upholstery, and was then employed with Giant Eagle in Ellwood City.

She was a member of St. Peter's Reformed Church in Zelienople.

She volunteered for the Ellwood City Meals on Wheels and Ellwood City Carpenter's Project. Above all, Barbara enjoyed being around family.

Barbara is survived by her loving husband, William Metcalfe, whom she married May 5, 1962; her three sons and her daughter, James (Judy) Metcalfe of Ellwood City, Timothy (Marian) Metcalfe of New Port Richey, Fla., Michael (Mandi) Metcalfe of Chicora, and Tanya Shumake of Conneaut, Ohio; six grandchildren, James (Mary Beth) Metcalfe Jr., Jessica Scheidemantle, Jacqueline Metcalfe, Mallick Metcalfe, Eliza Lewis and Michael Davis; and five great-grandchildren, James Metcalfe III, Alice Scheidemantle, Kenzie Davis, Ramsay Davis and Kira Stethenson; her two brothers and three sisters, Beverly (Ron) Rape of Zelienople, Bruce Ziegler of Harmony, Brenda Hootsman of Butler, Beth Ziegler of Erie and Barry (Salina) Ziegler of La Porte, Ind.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

METCALFE — Family and friends of Barbara Metcalfe, who died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Boylan Funeral Home, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople.A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Peter's Reformed Church, 320 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople.In lieu of floral arrangements, the family suggests that donations and memorial contributions be made to St. Peter's Reformed Church.Expressions of sympathy may be shared with Barbara's family at www.boylanfuneralservices.com.
