Jim McKissick hit a two-run triple and then scored on a double by Cory Pyle to account for all three of Butler City's runs in a 3-2 upset win over Mars in the Butler County American Legion baseball playoffs Thursday night.

Mars entered the tournament as the top seed but managed only two runs against Butler City starter Brian Warheit, who scattered eight hits over seven innings, striking out six and walking one.

AdamClark picked up the hard-luck loss for Mars. He struck out four in the complete game defeat.

Mitch Connor and AdamSpithaler each singled twice for Mars.

Butler City will play at East Butler, Saturday at 8:15 p.m. Butler Township plays at Mars today.

In other playoff action:

• East Butler scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to hand Saxonburg a 5-2 defeat.

Dallas O'Donnell pitched a complete game for the win and surrendered just two unearned runs in the top of the seventh.

Saxonburg reached the game by virtue of Austin Leffler's solo home run that beat Center Township 5-4 in nine innings earlier Thursday. It was the continuation of a game that was called because of darkness with the score tied at 4-all after eight innings Tuesday.

• Luke Master singled three times, scored a run and drove in a run as Meridian ousted Center Township from the double-elimination tournament by a score of 10-8.
