Alda Blanche Smith
Alda Blanche (Wachter) Smith, 93, of Kittanning passed away Monday at ACMH Hospital.
She had lived in the area since 1958.
Born July 23, 1921, in Indiana Township, Allegheny County, she was the daughter of the late Edward F. and Mary (Shorts) Wachter.
Mrs. Smith was a member of the Cadet Nurse Corps during World War II, and continued working as a registered nurse afterward. She returned to school at age 83 to earn her bachelor's degree.
She was a member of Union First Presbyterian Church in Cowansville and also attended Grace Presbyterian Church in Kittanning.
She belonged to the Golden Links and spent many years traveling with the West Penn Winnies camper club. She enjoyed reading, cross word puzzles and taking her children to activities, when they were younger.
Mrs. Smith is survived by two daughters, Marian (William) Sumney of Chicora and Nancy (David) Shaffer of Adrian, Pa.; three sons, Clyde (Ellie) Smith of Butler, Martin Smith of Victoria, Texas, and Bryan (Christine Corry) Smith of Millers Creek, N.C.; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John F. Smith, who passed away on July 11, 2000; two brothers, Earl and Orville Wachter; one sister, Martha Wachter-Thompson; and one grandson, Martin F. Smith Jr.
SMITH — Friends of Alda Blanche (Wachter) Smith, who died Monday, July 6, 2015, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home in Cowansville.Additional visitation will be at 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Friday at the Union First Presbyterian Church in Cowansville with the Rev. Mary Marks King officiating. Interment will be in Lawn Haven Burial Estates.Memorial contributions may be made in Alda's honor to the Union First Presbyterian Church, 824 E.
