Wanda M. Beck
Wanda M. Beck, age 88, of Butler, passed away Friday at Brookdale of Austintown, Ohio, located near to the residence of her oldest son.
Born in Butler Township on Oct. 25, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Darrell R. and Helen Vinroe Matson. Wanda was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, George A. Beck Sr., who passed away June 18, 2014.
Wanda was a member of Saint Paul Roman Catholic Church, and during her youth, she was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.
Employed by Ideal Cleaners, Wanda was active in youth organizations to support her children’s involvement. Wanda was especially proud of the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren, who became teachers, business leaders, university administrators, attorneys, engineers and health care professionals.
Wanda and George enjoyed bowling and traveled extensively. Wanda will be remembered as a wonderful mother, excellent homemaker and cook, and the individual whom friends and family called upon for help when problems arose. Wanda’s family thanks Newhaven Court in Butler, and Brookdale of Austintown, Ohio, and Harbor Light Hospice, of Youngstown, Ohio, for their excellent care of Wanda while she faced the challenges of Alzheimer’s during her final years.
Preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters, Wanda is survived by her brother, Raymond Matson of Butler; two sons, Tom Beck of Canfield, Ohio, and George Beck Jr. and his wife, Susan, of Mt. Prospect, Ill.; three daughters, Kathleen Lewis and her husband, Raymond, of Churchville, Md., Jean Young and her husband, Jeffrey, of Bowie, Md., and Lori Ann Rodean and her husband, William, of Sykesville, Md.; and 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
BECK — Friends of Wanda M. Beck, who passed away Friday, Nov. 18, 2016, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Martin Funeral Home, 429 Center Avenue.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday from Saint Paul Roman Catholic Church.
Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery.
Members of Saint Paul Catholic Women and Christian Mothers will meet at 9:35 a.m. Tuesday at the church to recite the rosary.
The family requests memorial donations be made to St. Vincent de Paul Food Bank, 146 North Monroe Street, Butler, PA 16001.
