Jay W. Rinebolt

Jay W. Rinebolt, 80, of Saxonburg, passed away Saturday at Allegheny General Hospital.

Born Nov. 19, 1937, in Johnstown, he was the son of Clarence Rinebolt and Sarah Maurer Rinebolt.

Jay graduated from Westmont Hilltop High School in Johnstown. From there, he graduated from Indiana State Teacher's College in 1960.

He taught 43 years at Knoch High School, serving as chairman of the Social Studies Department. He was well respected by fellow teachers and mentored young teachers, encouraging them with his love of public education.

Jay was nominated as one of the top 10 economic teachers in Pennsylvania in 1988. He was also president of the SBCEA for many years, having served on region, state and national resolution committees. He was the original chairman of PSEA Midwestern Region Resolutions committee, where most of the Midwestern Region resolutions were written and adopted under his leadership as a chairman.

Jay served as president of Butler County Coordination Council for many years. He taught adult education classes on local history of Saxonburg, culminating in a field trip to see the Brooklyn Bridge.

Jay was a longtime member of the Saxonburg Area Authority. Jay was honored by the authority in August 2016 when the wastewater treatment plant on Renfrew Road in Penn Township was renamed as the Jay W. Rinebolt Facility.

Although he enjoyed spending time with family the most, Jay enjoyed driving, traveling, reading, playing on the computer and watching football, especially the Steelers.

Surviving are wife, Patricia J. Temchack Rinebolt, whom he married July 14, 1962; two daughters, Susan (Mark) Kennedy of Lower Burrell and Janine (Mark) Hadley of Greer, S.C.; and five grandchildren, Kristen, John, Jayme, Megan and Katherine.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

RINEBOLT — Friends of Jay W. Rinebolt, who died Saturday, March 10, 2018, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Fox Funeral Home, Saxonburg.Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev.
