Development plans delayed
MIDDLESEX TWP — While plans for the Middlesex Crossings development were not presented at the township supervisors meeting Wednesday, two new softball fields were approved for Mars Centennial School.
Township manager Eric Kaunert said the developer for the proposed large retail and residential development on Route 8 asked for more time for the approval process.
Instead of holding the expected conditional use public hearing Wednesday for the development, those plans will be presented at the Jan. 27 planning commission meeting.
But a public hearing was held by the supervisors for two softball fields and a parking lot at Mars Centennial School.
The fields and lot will be on either side of Officer Ed Brooks Drive, which is a bus-only drive leading from Route 228 and the Centennial School.
Bernard Lamm, an engineer with Common Ground, presented the Mars School District’s plan to the supervisors, who approved it.
The fields will be accessed through the school entrance.
Also at the meeting, the supervisors approved a $5 hourly raise for township solicitor Mike Hnath, whose rate now will be $170 per hour.
They also approved a $15 an hour raise for the planning commission solicitor, Sean Gallagher, who will now earn $125 per hour.
They also heard police Sgt. Randy Ruediger report that the number of incidents the police respond to is increasing.
Ruediger said in 2014 Middlesex officers responded to 4,653 calls. In 2015, that increased to 5,600 calls.
