Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens presents its traditional winter flower show themed this year around “The Nutcracker, A Fresh Arrangement” through Jan. 8. Poinsettias, amaryllis and ivy along with twinkling lights and aromatic greens will deck the halls. Cut trees will be decorated to symbolize the different dances of the “The Nutcracker” ballet. The conservatory at One Schenley Park is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and until 10 p.m. through Dec. 31 for candlelight evenings. Phipps closes at 5 p.m. Saturday for Christmas Eve, and will be closed on Christmas Day. Admission is $12 for adults, $11 for senior citizens and for students with valid ID, $9 for children ages 2 to 18, and free for children younger than 2. Carnegie Science Center, North Side, will host all six Steelers Super Bowl trophies Monday through Jan. 1. Viewing the trophies is free with general admission, which is $17.95 for adults and $11.95 for children ages 3 to 12. The science center will be closed Saturday and Sunday. Holiday hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Dec. 30; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 31; and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 1. Heinz History Center, 1212 Smallman St., continues “Stars and Stripes: An American Story” through June 17. National Aviary, 700 Arch St., hosts Penguins Camp for children ages 6 to 8 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 29 and for children ages 9 to 12 on Dec. 30, and the holiday bird show, starring Fleury the snowy owl, daily at noon and 3 p.m. through Jan. 2. Extra fees apply for these programs. The aviary is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. It will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 31.
