Margaret "Peg" Criswell Davis, 95, an active member of the Emlenton civic community and retired school teac-her, died at 10:40 p.m. Tuesday at UPMC Northwest after a brief illness.

Born Dec. 3, 1912, in Emlenton, she was the daughter of Fleming B. and Hattie May Criswell.

She was a 1930 graduate of Emlenton High School, attended Slippery Rock University and received her teaching degree from Clarion University.

During her 26-year teaching career, she taught at the Kensington Grant Farm School in Emlenton, Emlenton High School and the Mars School District and retired in 1975 from Rocky Grove High School, where she taught seventh grade English.

Mrs. Davis was a life member of the NEA, the PSEA and the PSAR of Venango County and the R.S.V.P.

She was a lifelong member of the Emlenton Presbyterian Church, where she was the oldest member and had served as a deacon. She was a golden star member and past matron of the Emlenton Chapter, now Parker Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. She was the first mother adviser of both the Emlenton and Mars Order of the Rainbow Assembly for Girls.

Mrs. Davis was very instrumental with the building of the Emlenton Medical Center and served on the center's board of directors as secretary until her death. She also was a member of the Emlenton Civic Club and past president of the Emlenton Area Over 55 Club.

She enjoyed sports, especially bowling in the women's league, and she was a fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers.

She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Kathryn Perry and Darrell of La Plata, Md., and Peggy Wisneski and Raymond of Portage, Ind.; a son and his wife, James C. Davis II and Ruth of Emlenton; nine grandchildren, Gregory Perry, Lori Perry Daugherty, Richard Wisneski, Lynne Wisneski Clumb, Kimberly Wisneski Croarkin, James Clark Davis III and John, Jeffrey and Jason Davis; and two step-grandchildren, David and Gregory O'Brien. She also is survived by a nephew, Robert F. Criswell Jr. and his wife, Jan, of Lititz; 12 great-grandchildren; and four step- great-grandchildren.

Her husband, James Clark Davis, whom she married June 17, 1935, in Knox, died March 10, 1998. She also was preceded in death by a sister, Bessie Reichart; a brother, Robert F. Criswell; and a granddaughter, Julie Davis.

<B>DAVIS</B> — Friends of Margaret "Peg" Criswell Davis, who died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2007, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the <B>Hile Funeral Home</B>, 1204 Kerr Ave., Emlenton. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Lori Danielson, her church pastor and the Rev. Darrell Knopp, her former church pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at the Crawford Memorial Cemetery, Emlenton.The Parker City Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star will conduct services at 6:45 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.Memorial contributions may be made to the Emlenton Area Medical Corp., P.O.
