South Butler teachers receive grants

JEFFERSON TWP — Several South Butler School District teachers are getting creative teaching grants through the Knoch Knights Legacies Foundation.

Teachers could submit proposals for special funding for classroom initiatives. The funds are available in part due to a privately funded dollar-for-dollar matching challenge grant program, which raised more than $35,000.

Teachers will receive their awards this summer to plan their projects for the 2014-15 school year.

The teaching grants will fund Agriculture Club resources for teachers Krisann Lambert and Lauren Burgard, and Student Growth through Technology for Denise Chybrzynski, both at South Butler Intermediate Elementary School; incorporating iPad technology into math and language arts for teacher Hope Hull and incorporating a sensory room for Ginger Rowan, both at South Butler Primary School; and promoting global awareness and promoting community service through memoir and a literary nonfiction study in advanced-level speech and debate coursework, for teacher Alison McBee on both projects at Knoch High School.

The foundation seeks private funds to benefit students in the areas of academic and extracurricular activities and to help with facility improvements.
