The Butler County American Legion Baseball League managers have decided on their 30 players for the All-Star Tryout at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Pullman Park.

All players will be timed in the 60-yard dash. Outfielders will field fly balls and make throws to the plate. Infielders will field ground balls and make throws from third base to first base.

A simulated game will then be played with each pitcher facing five batters.

Eight players — seven position players and one pitcher — will be selected by evaluators to advance to the next round of all-star tryouts, slated for Thursday at St. Marys.

"How the batters do in the simulated game means nothing," Butler City manager Jerry Piroch said. "Baseball is a game of speed and that's what counts most."

Each player's fundamentals, mechanics and skills will be evaluated as well.

Players participating in Saturday's tryout follow. They were selected by the consensus of the league's managers.

"Anyone who couldn't be there Saturday was excluded from selection,"Piroch said. "If a selected player doesn't show up, he gets a one-game suspension."
