Richard Hadley

Hadley

Richard “Dick” Michael Hadley, 71, of Cranberry Township, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2022, while under the care of Wexford Health Pavilion.

Born Nov. 24, 1950, in Rochester, N.Y., he was the son of the late John C. Hadley and Dorothy Johnson Hadley.

Dick was the beloved husband for 50 years to Mary Jane Roberts Hadley, whom he married on July 15, 1972.

He was the father of Jeff (Kylie) Hadley of Gibsonia, Kevin (Dana) Hadley of Butler, and Mike (Christine) Hadley of East Northport, N.Y.; grandfather of the late Luke Hadley, Jacob Hadley, Jack Hadley, Myles Hadley, Evan Hadley and Sophia Hadley; and brother of the late Judy Overacker and Dwight (Nancy) Hadley of Albany, N.Y. He also is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Truly one of the best human beings went to Heaven on Aug. 23, 2022. If anyone embodied the words loving husband, dad, friend and leader, it was Dick Hadley.

Growing up in Rochester, N.Y., Dick attended McQuaid Jesuit High School before attending Dayton University.

After starting his family with Mary Jane in Rochester and moving briefly to Poland, Ohio, they moved to Cranberry Township in 1980. Raising his three boys Jeff, Kevin and Mike with Mary Jane was the greatest joy of his life. He stood by each of his boys every step of the way, often volunteering to help coach teams the boys played on. In true Dick Hadley fashion, not only did he help coach, he got involved by volunteering to help run organizations like the Cranberry Athletic Association.

Throughout his life, community service and helping others was at the forefront of everything he did. Dick served as the chair of the Cranberry Township Board of Supervisors, chair of the Cranberry General Authority, voting member of the Southwestern PA Planning Commission and board member of the Miracle League of Southwestern PA. In the past, Dick also served as president of the PA State Association of Supervisors, the Local Government Academy, chair of the North Hills Tax Collection Committee, and board member of Municipal Risk Management. In 2015, Dick retired as the executive director of the Allegheny League of Municipalities.

Dick and Mary Jane celebrated 50 years of being happily married in July 2022. To celebrate, they spent time in Rochester with their closest childhood friends. Once you became a friend of Dick’s, that friendship remained in place forever. The words most often spoken about Dick by his friends and family were kind, loyal, fair, gentle, humble, hardworking and funny. There wasn’t a room that Dick couldn’t light up with his incredible sense of humor and quick wit. No conversation lasted very long without a comment from Dick that would create laughter and put smiles on the faces of everyone around him.

Dick’s favorite things to do were spend time with family, play golf, watch any Pittsburgh sports team compete and travel with his beautiful bride, Mary Jane.

Too soon to send such an incredible human being to Heaven is an understatement. Dick will be missed tremendously by his family and friends. Saying goodbye is difficult, but there is comfort in knowing Heaven has gained a beautiful angel.
