The general manager of the Residence Inn hotel in Cranberry Township was honored with The Hamister Group's first top employee award.

The Hamister Group, a national hotel management company, awarded Bonnie Weyman the first HIWART award on Oct. 2.

The Cranberry hotel is one of five run by the Hamister Group in the Pittsburgh area.

The HIWART pin was established this year by the company to recognize employees who excel in providing customer service with the company's values of honesty, integrity, work ethic, accountability, respect and trust. Nominations for the award come from employees and customers.

Weyman received her award at a surprise ceremony at the Residence Inn. It was presented by Jack Turesky, president and chief operation officer of the Hamister Group.

"Bonnie lives our company's values and promotes them in how she treats her customers and those she works with every day," Turesky said.

The Residence Inn is at 1308 Freedom Road.

The company employs nearly 1,000 workers in New York, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Kentucky and Florida.

BUTLER TWP — CD Zone, an entertainment media store, has moved to the new Butler Crossing shopping center behind the new McDonalds restaurant.With more than twice the space, CD Zone now offers a vast selection of CDs, DVDs, video games and related items. CD Zone will continue to buy, sell, trade and repair discs and order hard-to-find items.New is the Gamer Zone video gaming center available for parties, tournaments and open play. Customers can try a game before they buy it.The grand opening will be from Sunday through Oct. 17. Free game play on the big screens will be featured, and prizes, free gift cards and refreshments will be offered all week.The band AC/DC ROCK BAND will perform there from 8 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

CRANBERRY TWP — MarketSpace Communications has two new employees.Dustin McGrew, an interactive developer comes to the Cranberry firm from Pipitone Group where he worked on Web site development and Flash animation.Trish Parkhill is a brand director. She had worked with MARC USA in Pittsburgh.MarketSpace Communications has been in Cranberry since 2005. Its owner is Pam Peters.

DETROIT — General Motors said it signed an agreement to sell control of its iconic Hummer brand to a Chinese heavy equipment maker.The company said Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery will acquire 80 percent of the Hummer brand, trademarks and trade names plus intellectual property rights.The remaining 20 percent will go to Suolang Duoji, a private entrepreneur.Financial terms were not disclosed.The investors also will get Hummer's nationwide dealer network.
