S. Rock begins super search
SLIPPERY ROCK TWP — The search for a new superintendent for the Slippery Rock School District has begun.
On Monday, the district posted application materials on its website and published advertisements to find a replacement for Superintendent Kathy Nogay.
According to the application, the district is seeking candidates with teaching experience, with supervisor and principal experience preferred. A doctoral degree also is preferred.
The application also says candidates should have experience with district budgets, grant writing and comprehensive planning, as well as have a “passion for learning which translates into positive outcomes for both students and staff.”
Interested candidates can get an application packet at the district’s website, by calling 724-794-2960 or by e-mailing slipperyrock.suptsearch@hotmail.com.
The deadline for applicants is March 26, and the start date for the new superintendent is July 1.
The district is encouraging district residents to participate in a community survey, which is available on the district’s website at www.slipperyrock.k12.pa.us.
Results from the survey will be used by the school board to help pick the new superintendent. The deadline for the survey is March 28.
Nogay announced in October that she will retire at the end of the school year. She became superintendent in 2007.
The school board in January formed a superintendent search committee composed of board members Michael Scheer, Matt Pyle and Diana Wolak, with Scheer named as chairman.
In February, the school board hired consultant Vic Morrone, a former superintendent in Allegheny and Beaver counties, to assist with the search.
In 2013, he helped the Mars School District find Superintendent Jim Budzilek to replace William Pettigrew, who retired.
