Depew

James Hugh Depew, 91, of Slippery Rock, passed away peacefully on Aug. 21, 2022, at Home 2 Me personal care home in Slippery Rock.

Jim was born on May 30, 1931, in Pittsburgh. He was the eldest son of the late Elmer Joseph and Virginia Beatrice (Weissert) Depew.

Jim attended Slippery Rock High School.

He served in the U.S. Air Force, where he received training to become an electrician.

Jim was a member of Hillcrest Presbyterian Church. He was a founding member of Rocky Springs Church in Harrisville, where he held the positions of elder, youth leader, Sunday school superintendent and teacher. Jim shared his singing talent at church, weddings and many family occasions over the years.

Jim worked as an electrician for 60 years and enjoyed his work. He also enjoyed working on cars, singing, serving in the church and gardening.

Jim is survived by his wife, Doris (Hutalski) Depew, of Slippery Rock; three sons, Mark J. Depew of Grove City, Matthew J. Depew of Saxonburg and Nathan A. and wife Julie R. Depew of Grove City; two stepsons, Ken Hutalski of Portersville, and Mark Hutalski of Columbus, Ohio; two brothers, Robert F. Depew of Cranberry Township, and Albert E. Depew of Saxonburg; 12 grandchildren; three stepgranddaughters; and two great-granddaughters.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Carole (McFadden) Depew; a sister, Janet Shymatta; a brother, William J. Depew; and a number of nieces and nephews.

DEPEW — Friends and family of James Hugh Depew, who died Sunday, Aug. 21, 2022, will be received from 2 to 5 p.m. Thursday at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock.

The funeral service will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and will be officiated by the Rev. Mike Charles.

The public is invited to a graveside committal interment service to be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Prairie Cemetery, Harrisville.
