Johnson joins Curt Dorcy, Gary Brown, Jim Rice, Barry Barger and John Lutz as members of the 300 club this season in the Strikes and Spares League.

It was a good night for Bob Snyder as well, as he rolled a 287 game en route to a 780 series. Mike Dunkerley added a 768 set and Tony Pizer chipped in with a 749.

Brea Suchonic rolled games of 237, 244 and 249 for a 730 series to lead the Butler High girls bowling team to a 4-0 sweep of Shaler. Nicole Balk added a 602 set, and Kelly Bintrim (577) and Autumn Hepler (561) scored well. The Butler boys also knocked off Shaler 4-0, led by Jacob Cookson's 676 series. What is the distance from the foul line to the arrows, or range finders, on a standard lane? Answer at the end of the column.

For a long time, the standard ball weight for league members, especially men, was 16 pounds. It was thought that the heavier ball helps with pin carry.Today, ball manufacturers have perfected surfaces so much that even a 14- or 15-pound ball will carry as well as a 16-pounder.If you are a beginner or if you are currently throwing a 16-pound ball and are having trouble with your game, consider a switch to a lighter weight. You might need to adjust your timing or arm swing because of the lighter weight, but it just might be what the doctor ordered to help your game.
