Chuba Sr.

John M. Chuba Sr., 73, of Butler died Sunday morning at the VNA Inpatient Hospice, Butler.

Born Dec. 27, 1937, in Butler, he was a son of the late Thomas and Anna (Stelbotsky) Chuba.

He had worked for Local 12 as a sheet metal worker for 25 years and also worked at the former Cutaway Meat Market in Butler.

John was a member of St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church, the Cubs ASA, Moose Lodge 64, the Butler Elks, American Legion Post 778 in Lyndora, and the 4th Degree of the Knights of Columbus.

He was an avid golfer, having belonged to St. Jude Golf Club in Chicora.

A veteran of the Vietnam War, he served with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Coral Sea.Surviving are his wife, Bernadine V. (Tack) Chuba, who he married June 26, 1967; a son, John M. “Jay” Chuba Jr. and his wife, Lynne, of Seven Fields; a daughter, Lee Ann Shoemaker and her husband, Bryan, of Mars; a granddaughter, Sydney Shoemaker; three sisters, Lillian and Joseph Matula of Kingwood, Texas, Joan and Ron Morgan of Valencia and Anna Mae Patterson of Kentucky; and two brothers, Thomas and Virginia Chuba and Steve Chuba, all of Butler.He was preceded in death by sisters, Julia, Della and Georgia; and brothers, Joseph and Bernard.

<B>CHUBA </B>— There will be no visitation. A Mass of Christian burial for John M. Chuba Sr., who died Sunday, Sept. 11, 2011, will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church, 125 Buttercup Road, Meridian. The Rev. George Palick will officiate. Inurnment with military honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Butler.
