Betsy L. Sanftner passed away on Aug. 17, 2022, in Slippery Rock, following a lengthy illness, at the age of 80.

Betsy was born in 1942 in Decorah, Iowa, and was the daughter of the late Donald and Arlene Meyer. She grew up in Calmer, Iowa, and graduated with a degree in music from the University of Iowa Class of 1964.

She loved to read and had a particular interest in history related to World War II, the Vietnam and Civil Wars, and presidential history. She enjoyed talking politics and discussing current events, and was a passionate advocate for social justice. She enjoyed doing all types of puzzles and caring for indoor and outdoor houseplants and flowers.

Betsy was a compassionate soul, who always wanted the best for others. She loved to spend time with family and friends. Time with her grandchildren was especially precious to her.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Earl Meyer and Carl Meyer.

She is survived by two daughters, Stephanie Whiteside (William) of Alexandria, Va., and Jennifer McGraw (Robert) of Slippery Rock; two grandchildren, Matthew and Sarah Whiteside; her nephews, Scott Meyer and Brad Meyer; and her niece, Pamela Meyer.

She will be sadly missed by relatives and friends.

SANFTNER — A celebration of life will be held at a later date for Betsy L. Sanftner, who died Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2022.

Arrangements are under the direction of SMITH FUNERAL HOME, Slippery Rock.
