Dinner meeting set for Monday

The Intermediate League of Butler recently elected the Rev. Karen Geary as its president for the 2006-08 term.

The club season will begin with a dinner meeting Monday at the Butler Country Club. Following the dinner, a patriotic salute "There She Stands" will be presented by Donna Reeder, Pennsylvania state chairman of the General Federation of Womens Clubs.

As president, Geary has chosen the theme "Bloom Where You Are Planted."

The federation's state project, HUGS and Kisses, will be an emphasis area for the club. Members will collect clothing for children. This year the club will also conduct a local project, focusing on the Butler Free Clinic.

Club members participate in a range of community projects annually, including a caregiver luncheon, volunteering in a Life Skills classroom, providing a party for PARC clients and tutoring.

An active member of the club, Geary has chaired the public affairs and arts committees. She is an ordained deacon at St. Peter's Episcopal/Anglican Church of Butler and the Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh. Her other experience includes church administrator of the Good Samaritan Church in Paoli, executive director of Upper Main Line YMCA in Berwyn/Paoli, director of volunteer services for the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge, trainer for the Maine/New Hampshire YMCA's Certification for Professional directors; trainer for the Middle Atlantic Region YMCA's Certification for Professional Directors, trainer and director for the Middle Atlantic Region YMCA's Annual Aquatic School, and trainer on the YMCA Advanced Management Team.

She and her husband, the Rev. J. Bruce Geary, have five children and nine grandchildren. They reside in Center Township.
