BLT hosts free author talk
Author Randall Silvis is returning for another event at Butler Little Theatre in August, and in a way, to his roots as a writer.
“The first play (Silvis) ever saw was one he wrote for our New Dimensions Workshop at BLT,” said Dennis Casey, vice chairman of the theater’s board. “He’d never written a play before.”
The Rimersburg writer will give a talk about his latest novel, “The Deepest Black,” as well as offer a question and answer session at 7 p.m. Aug. 27 in the Butler Little Theatre.
Casey said Silvis used to work for Knoch School District and has visited Butler for other book-related events.
“He’s going to read and talk about the latest book; he’s quite the accomplished writer,” he said. “Many of his works, plays, novels and short stories are located in the regional area, both fiction and nonfiction.”
Casey said Silvis’ entry in the one-act play competition called New Dimensions 30 years ago earned him two spots of the final three plays. It propelled him to writing full-length works for New York productions and screenplays.
“The Deepest Black” is a crime novel built on fact and fiction, according to a release, and injects Silvis’ mystic life experience.
Casey said copies of the book will be available at the event, which is free and open to the public.
“My personal hope is that people are intrigued by (Silvis) and interested in his other books, that they’ll search him out. He’s quite the guy,” he said.
