Penn State-Beaver IDs ex-student wanted in threat

PITTSBURGH — Officials at the Penn State-Beaver campus have identified a former student charged with a sex crime last month as the person who made a social media threat referencing the 2007 Virginia Tech shooting massacre that prompted officials to close the campus today.

Penn State-Beaver spokeswoman Amy Krebs says campus and local police and the FBI are now investigating the threat allegedly made by Michael Mollett.

Online court records show Mollett, a 21-year-old man from Pittsburgh, was charged last month with indecent assault by police on the campus.

The campus closed today because police there are investigating a Twitter threat that Mollett posted referencing the Virginia Tech shooting in which 32 students and faculty were killed.

Krebs says there have been no related acts of violence reported at the school.
