Henry G. Sommers
Henry G. Sommers, 85, of Sechen Drive, Portersville, Muddy Creek Township passed away Tuesday at the VNA Hospice in Butler following a brief illness.
Born Aug. 14, 1932, in Ellwood City, he was the son of the late George B. and Irene L. Kline Sommers.
He was married for 63 years to Janis E. Hawthorne Sommers. She passed away Feb. 4, 2018.
Henry retired as the camp manager at the Seneca Hills Bible Camp. He had also worked at Mathews Conveyer.
Henry was an active member of Portersville Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder.
He was a life member of the Wurtemburg Perry Volunteer Fire Department.
Henry was a staff sergeant with the 2nd Platoon, Company B, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War. He received the Korean Service Medal, the Combat Infantry Badge and the Good Conduct Award from the Army.
He enjoyed the outdoors, especially camping, fishing and hunting. His most cherished time was spent with his family.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas H. (Susan) Sommers of Ellwood City, David J. (Jane) Sommers of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; two daughters, Barbara (Pete) Christophe of Ellwood City, and Susan (David) Marcyjanik of Portersville; a sister, Ilene Carbone of New Castle; a brother, Richard Sommers of New Castle; 10 grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.
SOMMERS — Family and friends of Henry G. Sommers, who died Tuesday, July 10, 2018, will be received from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. Saturday at Portersville Presbyterian Church. His pastor, the Rev.
