Slippery Rock University wrestling co-captain Jason Cardillo has been named to the National Wrestling Coaches Association all-academic team. He posted a 3.571 grade point average as an exercise science major this year.
Overall, The Rock wrestling team had a 2.984 GPA and finished 14th in the NWCA's Top 30 All-Academic team competition.
Jodi Caro, a senior cross country and track and field runner at Freeport, will continue her academic and athletic career at St. Vincent College.Caro is a member of the National Honor Society and Who's Who in American High School Sports.
Justin Papania, a junior pitcher on the Marietta baseball team, concluded his junior season by being named to the Ohio Athletic Conference second-team.Papania, a graduate of Butler High School, had a 2.69 ERA in 12 appearances with 65 strikeouts. He allowed just 18 earned runs.The Pioneers finished the season with a 33-11 record and 15-3 in the league for first place.
After a slow start, Jason Conti has seen his batting average climb to .351 in 38 games for the Oklahoma RedHawks, the Texas Rangers' Class AAA affiliate.Conti, a graduate of Seneca Valley, has scored 26 runs and added 11 doubles, one triple, four home runs and 28 RBI through Wednesday.His hits (54) and batting average are third-and fifth-best in the Pacific Coast League and Conti is tied for 12th in RBI and doubles and 14th in runs scored.
