CRANBERRY TWP — A 5k race later this month will raise money for multiple sclerosis.

The event will start at 9 a.m. on Oct. 23 in North Boundary Park. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m.

Proceeds will benefit to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, which funds research, advocacy, education and programs for people with MS.

Multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune disease that affects the central nervous system. It disrupts the flow of information within the brain, and between the brain and body.

The race is being organized by Seneca Valley senior Emma Lizewski of Cranberry Township.

Emma said she was motivated to raise money and awareness for MS, because her mother, Megan Lizewski, lives with the disease.

Emma said her goal is to raise $1,000.
