SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University football defensive coordinator Shawn Lutz has been promoted to associate head coach.

Lutz will remain The Rock's defensive coordinator while taking on added duties as 25-year head coach George Mihalik's top aide.

Lutz has tutored eight All-Americans and 24 All-PSAC West performers during his SRU coaching career. Defensive coordinator since 2006, he has been a member of The Rock coaching staff for 16 years.

ADA, Ohio — Seneca Valley graduate Jackie Mangola, a senior on the Ohio Northern University women's softball team, has received the Clyde A. Lamb Award as the school's top female student-athlete.Mangola has been named first team All-America, All-Region and All-OAC multiple times in her career. She is hitting .307 with seven doubles and four homers this season and the Polar Bears are playing in the Division III World Series this weekend.

SLIPPERY ROCK — Cameron Daugherty, Lexi Arnold and Julia Cain will represent Slippery Rock University at the 2012 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field National Championships May 24-26 in Colorado.Daugherty is seeking his third All-America honor in the pole vault and is the reigning PSAC champion. On the women's side, Arnold will compete in the javelin and is two-time PSAC champion, while Cain will compete in the pole vault.The top-eight finishers in all events at nationals are named All-Americans by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University finished fourth in the PSAC’s 2011-12 Dixon Trophy competition, trailing champion Bloomsburg, Shippensburg and Kutztown.SRU had the highest finish by both a Western Division school and schools that did not win a PSAC title.
