Nicholls, Murray win Free Care 5K race
GIBSONIA — Lance Nicholls of Pittsburgh and Michelle Murray of Greenlawn, N.Y., were the overall male and female winners of the 31st annual St. Barnabas Charities Free Care 5k recently.
Nicholls’ time was 15 minutes, 41 seconds. Murray’s time was 17:49.
Eli Anish and Julian Paul, both of Pittsburgh, finished second and third in the male division. Harley Kletz of Pittsburgh and Lauren Finikiotis were second and third in the female division.
Proceeds benefited the St. Barnabas Free Care Fund, which provides more than $6 million in care to residents and patients that cannot afford their care.
Johnston brothers team for victories
WASHINGTON, Pa. — Evans City’s Johnston brothers — trainer Aaron and driver Shawn — teamed for a pair of victories in harness racing action Wednesday at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows.
The pair won with DP Super Special, a 4-year-old gelding, in an $8,200 Conditioned Pace. They also triumphed with Shining Jewels, a 5-year-old mare, in a $7,900 Conditioned Pace.
Slippery Rock resident Brady Brown also won a $5,900 Claiming Pace driving Lifeisbutadream.
