Robert Wilson Swartz, 85, of Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, died at 10:11 a.m. Thursday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born Aug. 16, 1924, in Boulder, Colo., he was the son of the late Hobert Allport Swartz and Alice Evelyn Boyd Swartz.

Mr. Swartz was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Butler. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II in the European and Pacific Theaters. Mr. Swartz was a member of the Smethport Lodge F&AM of the Free Masons in Smethport, McKean County, and also was a member of Coudersport Consistory in Coudersport, Potter County. Mr. Swartz enjoyed watching professional wrestling on TV and gardening.

He is survived by his wife, Geraldine Hess Swartz of Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, who he married Sept. 11, 1948; a son, Robert A. and his wife Elizabeth Swartz of Butler; two daughters, Teresa A. Swartz and life partner, Nancy Wise of Arroyo Grande, Calif., and Elizabeth A. Swartz and her husband, John Crittenden of Alexandria, Va.; four granddaughters, Jennifer Rebecca Ryan and her husband Edward of Holmdel, N.J., Brandie Elizabeth Klee and her husband John of Butler, Emily Mae and her husband Joseph McMullen of Drexel Hill, Pa.; and Meghan Marie and husband Troy Nunes of Gibsonia; seven great-grandsons, Eamonn, Eoghan and Echlin Ryan of Holmdel, N.J., Aiden, Ethan and Collin Klee of Butler and Tavian Nunes, Gibsonia; one sister, Jean Roberts of Lewis Run, McKean County; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Swartz was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
