Hickory golf event set for Foxburg

FOXBURG — The 14th annual Foxburg Hickory Championship takes place Thursday through Saturday at Foxburg Country Club.

The featured event is the pre-1900 Open division. The FHC is one of the few pre-1900 Championships in the United States, along with the National Hickory Championship and the Wisconsin Gutty Challenge.

There are 42 entrants in the 2022 event. They represent 16 states and Canada. Practice rounds begin at 4 p.m. Thursday. Tee times begin at 9:30 a.m. Friday.

SR’s Brown surpasses 1,000-win plateau

WASHINGTON, Pa. — Slippery Rock resident Brady Brown, who recently secured his 1,000th career win as a driver, drove two more horses to victory Saturday during harness racing action Saturday at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows.

Brown drove Wild Wild Western to victory in the $17,600 Open Handicap Pace, the horse’s eighth consecutive win at The Meadows. Brown then teamed with trainer Steve Schoeffel of Evans City to win with Royaltyhasarrived, a 17-1 underdog. The 10-year-old gelding won a $6,000 Conditioned Pace.
