Rottweilers attack, severely hurt woman
FAIRVIEW TWP — A 70-year-old woman was severely injured Monday from an attack by two Rottweilers.
About 3 p.m., Martha Crawford was attacked by the dogs as she approached the house of Kathy Hilliard, 53, in the 400 block of Cherry Road, according to a state police report. Hilliard owns the dogs.
Crawford, who lives in the neighborhood, apparently was going toward Hilliard’s property with mail when the two dogs grabbed her arms and legs, according to the report.
She was taken to ACMH Hospital with arm and leg injuries. As of this morning, the hospital said she no longer was there.
A neighbor, who wanted to remain anonymous, said she was driving on Cherry Road about 2:45 p.m., when she saw Crawford and waved at her.
The neighbor said the dogs — kept in an outdoor kennel in an unfenced yard — have gotten loose in the past.
The neighbor said it appeared Crawford — who she said is not a U.S. Postal Service employee — was holding on to a piece of mail and may have been walking to her mailbox along the road to leave it for the postal worker to mail for her.
Hilliard could not be reached for comment.
Police said the investigation into the incident is continuing and charges are pending.
Investigating officer Trooper Shawn Palmer deferred comment to public information officer Trooper Ron Kesten, who could not be reached this morning.
According to court documents, Hilliard in 2011 pleaded guilty to a summary charge of not keeping a dog confined on her property.
