Rock coach nets 100th victory
LOCK HAVEN— Slippery Rock University women's basketball coach Laurel Heilman recorded her 100th win with SRU Wednesday night.
Heilman improved her career record to 100-133 in nine seasons at The Rock as her team posted a 79-69 win at Lock Haven.
Previously the head women's basketball coach at Allegheny College before returning to her alma mater, Heilman was captain of SRU's only PSAC championship team in 1986.
Senior post player Haley Gaidosh scored a career-high 21 points to lead SRU (7-11, 2-3). Fellow senior post player Sasha Sales contributed 17 points and 10 rebounds, her fourth double-double in the past five games.
Jess Schake scored nine points and blocked three shots while junior point guard Nikki Presto had seven points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals.
SRUscored 30 of the final 41 points in the first half to take a 36-17 lead by intermission. The Rock's biggest lead was 53-27 with 14:45 left in the game.
Lock Haven fell to 3-15, 0-5 with the loss.
Men's Basketball
SRU 67, Lock Haven 51 — Senior post player Denell Stephens recorded his 11th double-double of the season for The Rock (12-6, 3-2).Stephens had 15 points and 10 rebounds while Maron Brown had 14 points and 16 rebounds. Senior point guard Kyle Camper had 10 points, eight assists and four steals.Junior point guard Michael Evans Jr. paced The Rock with 19 points.The victory moved SRUinto a tie for third place in the PSACWest, one game behind division leaders Gannon and Indiana (Pa.).SRU had a 34-17 lead at halftime, then scored the first 10 points of the second half to assume a 44-17 lead with 17:30 left in the game.Lock Haven fell to 3-15, 1-4 with the loss.SRU travels to Indiana (Pa.) for a doubleheader Saturday.
