Sharon Akmal

Sharon Akmal, 66, of Chicora died Sunday after a long struggle with Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Sharon was born on June 16, 1946, in Chatham, Ontario, Canada, to the late Walter (Verney) and Loa Field.

She married Ahsan Akmal on Nov. 29, 1969. They started their married lives together in Pittsburgh. They relocated to Ontario, Canada, but settled and made their home in Chicora in 1979.

Sharon was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witness on Jan. 7, 1961. She was active in ministry and service as a Jehovah’s Witness until her death. She was a loving wife and devoted to her children and grandchildren. She was very giving with her time.

She also loved to travel, especially on cruises with her husband. Sharon was always busy. She loved to read and could devour a book in a rainy afternoon. Sharon was also a very talented at cross stitching. Sharon’s beautiful cross stitching hang not only on most of the walls of her home, but in other homes as well.

Sharon is survived by her husband, Ahsan Akmal; her children, Heidi and Greg Nokes of Houston, Texas, Joel and Cybil Akmal of Clarksburg, W.Va., Milcah and David Beltran of Houston, Texas, Nicole Akmal of Butler and Bethany and Frank Myers of Atlanta, Ga. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

AKMAL — A memorial service for Sharon Akmal, who died Sunday, May 12, 2013, will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness at 222 Holly Road, Chicora.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be sent to Jehovah’s Witnesses, 222 Holly Road, Chicora, PA 16025.
