Mary B. Hawthorne

Hawthorne

Mary B. Hawthorne, 93, of Jacksonville, Fla., formerly of Pittsburgh, passed away Tuesday while under the care of the Hadlow Center for Caring in Jacksonville.

Born Sept. 15, 1920, in Scotstown, Ireland, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Smyth) Clerkin.

Mary's strong faith in God sustained her role as an active member of St. Ferdinand Roman Catholic Church, where she was also a member of the Royal Court. She worked as a nurse for a nursing facility in England before she relocated to the United States in 1946. Mary was employed by Hartner's restaurant in Cranberry Township for 35 years. Most recently, she made her home with her daughter, Patsy, and son-in-law, Durwood, in Jacksonville.

Mary was proud of her Irish heritage and loved reading, cooking, gardening, traveling, but most of all, she treasured the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered.

She is survived by her children, Patsy (Durwood) Forte, Margaret “Peggy” Schmitt and William M. Hawthorne; her six grandchildren, Darren, Amy, Jim, Kristen, Bill and Erin; and her 12 great-grandchildren, Brianna, Brandon, Logan, Maddie, Jack, Sophia, Chloe, Abigale, Leah, Kevin, Carter and Carley.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank V. Hawthorne Sr., who passed away on Feb. 19, 2000; her son, Frank V. Hawthorne Jr.; three sisters; and seven brothers.
