Maridon celebrates Year of the Horse

2014 is the Year of the Horse

PENN TWP — The Maridon Museum will mark its 10th anniversary in 2014, starting with a Year of the Horse celebration Feb. 15 at the Butler Country Club.

A cash bar will open at 5:30 p.m. followed by hors d’oeuvres at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m.

Entertainment will be provided by the Butler Strolling Strings. Music for dancing will follow dinner.

A silent auction of selected items from Mary Hulton Phillips’ estate is planned.

Cost is $125 per person. This event is black tie optional.

The event committee includes Chairman Cathy Bronder, Jacie Bice, Rebecca Lowes, Carolyn Marsico, Gail Paserba, Donna Reeder and Nicole Robinson.

The “Celebrate the Maridon” year will continue with a Japanese tea event, Asian film festival and travelogue series. A new exhibit will open June 1 featuring watercolors by the late Taiwanese artist Ran In-Ting.

The Maridon at 322 N. McKean St. is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays.

Admission is $4 for adults, $3 for senior citizens and students, and free for children younger than 8. Guided tours are available with advance notice for no extra charge.
