George Kocak
George Kocak, 82, of Moon Township died Sunday at UPMC Cranberry Place.
He was born on May 22, 1936, in Ambridge, and was the son of the late Michael and Helen Cicvak Kocak.
He worked for US Airways for 10 years. He also worked for the former J&L Steel Corp., Aliquippa Works, with 30 years of service.
He was a member of St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church in Ambridge, where he was a pirohy worker for many years.
After graduating from Ambridge High School in 1954, George went on to become a pitcher in the minor leagues for the New York Giants.
George served his country during peacetime as a proud member of the U.S. Army.
His passions in life included visiting his grandchildren and his many trips to Las Vegas. He was an avid follower of all the Pittsburgh sports teams — the Pirates, Steelers and the Penguins.
George is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Marisa Kocak of Media, Pa.; three grandsons, Conrad, Dryden and Sawyer Kocak; his brother-in-law, Bruce (Sally) Bobick; his nieces and nephews, Dr. Carol Narkevic, Donna (Dean) Praskach, Richard (Debbie) Narkevic, Chris (Michelle) Kocak, Lisa (Blaine) Davidson, David (Joann) Kocak, Bridget (David) James and Bryna Bobick. He is also survived by numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Guzan Kocak; two brothers, Michael and John Kocak; and a sister, Mary Narkevic.
KOCAK — Friends of George Kocak, who died Sunday, May 27, 2018, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in John Syka Funeral Home, 833 Kennedy Drive, Ambridge.A Parastas service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.A Panachyda service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday followed by a church service at 10 a.m. in St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church with his pastor, the Rev. Mykhaylo Shkyndya officiating.Full military honors will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday in the SS Peter and Paul Cemetery Chapel and will be provided by the Beaver County Special Unit and the U.S. Army.Interment will follow in Economy Cemetery.A memorial rosary will be prayed at 10:20 a.m. Sunday, before the liturgy at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church and dedicated to the memory of George Kocak.
