Butler County's great daily newspaper

USIS

USIS does screening and security-based information and services for the government, commercial, and insurance industry markets.

According to Michael John, vice president of communication, “USIS views community service work and efforts as a critical part of what makes this a great company to work for. The way a business helps give back to the communities in which it operates says a great deal about that company and its employees.”

USIS has more than 1,400 employees in three locations in Western Pennsylvania who participated in activities in 2008 and will do so in 2009.

Here are some of the activities USIS is involved with:

It raised $15,000 for the United Way, and participated in the United Way Day of Caring, helping to refurbish the following locations: Pullman Park, Safe Harbor Shelter, Chicora Head Start, Harrisville Park, and a Chicora church.

Raised $10,140 for Butler’s Heart Walk and $8,937 for Mercer’s Heart Walk for the American Heart Association. Two male employees raised money by wearing red dresses to work. Co-workers and friends contributed to help them reach their $600 goal.

Raised $4,000 in the annual Bowl-A-Thon for Big Brothers Big Sisters. Also, employees volunteer as Big Brothers or Big Sisters.

Raised $8,515 for the Multiple Sclerosis Society Walk in Pittsburgh and raised $9,000 for the March of Dimes.

Donated Christmas gifts to residents of the Arbors at St. Barnabas and visited with the residents during their Presents for Patients Christmas party.

Conducted an Office Olympics in which the participants donated a canned good or nonperishable food item to participate in the office games for the Grove City Food Pantry. Collected and filled more than 22 boxes of food.

Employees conducted a desk decorating contest for the most “tastefully tacky” desk for the holiday season. Entry fees and votes for this contest were nonperishable food goods. More than 250 food items were donated to the pantry.

Employees also donated more than 200 toys to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, collected cell phones for soldiers in conjunction with Hicks Office Supply, and donated bags of cat and dog items to the Grove City Pet Rescue.
