The Butler Township fire prevention poster contest targets students at McQuistion, Meridian and Northwest elementary schools.
The contest provides a way for students to learn about and express their knowledge of fire prevention and safety by designing an original poster.
In addition, a Traveling Trophy is awarded to the school with the highest number of poster contest participants.
The trophy has been reclaimed by Meridian Elementary with 30 entries.
The following are winners from Meridan Elementary:

Donations made to Wounded WarriorsCHICORA — Chicora American Legion Post 642 donated $16,963 to the Wounded Warrior project.The legion raised the money by sending letters to those in the community, hosting a fun night and participating in four parades.The funds collected were given to the Wounded Warrior project Oct. 9 through the legion's 2010 Memorial Day Speaker, Lt. Gen. John Sattler, who graduated from the Naval Academy in 1971.The money was part of a larger donation gathered by the class of 1971.Butler's Mike McNallen, also a graduate of that class, was liaison with Sattler and other classmates.
Weight Watchers members donated more than 1,600 pounds of food to the Cranberry Food Bank and Southwest Butler County Food Cupboard.Groups in Zelienople and Cranberry Township joined to fight hunger and obesity by participating in the Fourth Annual Lose for Good campaign.The program, which ran from Aug. 28 to Oct. 15, is aimed at fighting hunger on local, national and global levels.———<B>Kiwanis Club selects officers</B>The Butler Kiwanis Club on Oct. 4 installed the following officers for the 2011-12 year: <B>Patti Kronek</B> as president, <B>Ruth Crotzer</B> as secretary and <B>Anthony Maletta</B> as treasurer.The directors for year 2014 are <B>Rebecca Crawford</B>, <B>Leland Bortmas</B> and <B>Robert Heaton</B>.The Butler Kiwanis is part of an international service club with an emphasis on youth and eliminating Maternal/Neonatal Tetanus.———<B>Brienna Simmons</B> of West Sunbury raised $600 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.Simmons, 12, is the daughter of Doug and Treva Simmons of West Sunbury.<B></B>
