Karns City High School teacher

Nancy Lendyak has won a grant from A&E Classroom and The History Channel for her lesson using TV programming.An East Brady resident, Lendyak received $1,000 for her winning submission to the "Ideas from Our Teachers Contest."She used a History Channel program about the truce Christmas night during World War I, "The Christmas Truce."Students explored the story of the truce by defining key vocabulary words, creating story maps of the events and analyzing three popular songs about the holiday cease-fire.———

Glade Run Gardens of the Glade Run Lutheran Services' Therapeutic Horticulture Program has been selected to receive a 2007 Youth Garden Grant from the National Gardening Association.The program was chosen from a group of 650 youth gardening programs nationwide. The program will receive an assortment of books from the association and a $250 gift card from Home Depot.———Winners at the
