Butler County’s first
Alzheimer’s Walk Sept. 17 at Moraine State Park raised $18,996.55 for the Alzheimer’s Association.The money raised will benefit programs for individuals suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and families struggling to care for a loved one. It also helps raise awareness of the importance of finding a cure for the disease.Nineteen teams walked in the event, and there were 168 participants.Top Tier Sponsors were

Rex Energy recently donated $42,000 to the
Lighthouse Foundation.The
Rev. Dan Borchert, executive director of the Lighthouse, said because of cuts in state funding the organization “started off the year looking pretty bad (financially).”However, Borchert said donors like Rex Energy have stepped up, and the Lighthouse will continue its programming such as its food pantry, transitional housing and vehicle donation program.“I’m extremely grateful,” Borchert said of the donation.Rex Energy’s donation comes from the money that the company raised at its annual charity golf outing, which was June 23 in State College.All of the funds from the event were donated to the communities in Rex Energy’s operating areas.The Lighthouse Foundation has operations at five sites and serves more than 6,000 people annually in Butler and northern Allegheny counties.———GIBSONIA — Consolidated Communications employees recently donated nonperishable food items and about $300 to the
