HARRISBURG — Pennsylvania's tax collections fulfilled budget projections in the first quarter of the state's fiscal year, but just barely.

The state Revenue Department said Wednesday it collected $6.6 billion through the end of September, which is only $500,000 above estimates.

In the first quarter, tax collections on sales and corporate income exceeded estimates, while revenue from personal income, inheritance and real-estate transfer taxes lagged projections.

MEADVILLE — The state attorney general's office has asked a judge to stop the sheriff's sale of a 122-year-old amusement park in northwestern Pennsylvania.Conneaut Lake Park is scheduled to be sold on Nov. 7 to recoup more than $927,000 in taxes owed to Crawford County and other entities.But in papers filed Wednesday in county court, government lawyers argue the park is a tax-exempt charitable trust. They say any buyer must set aside the property for public use.Conneaut Lake Park trustees hope a financial reorganization will allow them to redevelop, revitalize and expand the facilities.The park opened in 1892.
