Tough one to call

New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning is forecasted as this year's Super Bowl MVP by five area football coaches.
Grid coaches differ on S.B. winner

Area football coaches have mixed feelings when it comes to the outcome of Sunday’s Super Bowl.

Six choose the Giants. Five opt for the Patriots. New York quarterack Eli Manning is the most popular MVP choice, as he was chosen by five coaches.

Here are the predictions:

Clyde Conti, Butler: I like the Giants because they play defense. I like their front four and if you pressure Tom Brady, his ability level goes down fast.I have a lot of respect for both coaches, but I really like Tom Coughlin because he’s old-school. The Giants can pound the ball, they’re getting a big year out of (Eli) Manning and their receivers can go get the football.Giants, 24-17MVP: Eli Manning•

Don Holl, Seneca Valley: I think the Patriots will get up early and I see them being able to execute well on offense.Patriots, 31-21MVP: Aaron Hernandez•

Mike King, Knoch: The Giants are the hot team right now and in pro sports, it’s not how you start, it’s how you finish. Finding momentum at the right time can go a long way.Giants, 32-17MVP: Eli Manning•

John Gaillot, Freeport — I have mixed feelings because Tom Brady is so good and always plays well in the clutch. He did not play well last week, but will come out firing. The Giants defense is coming on. If the Giants can get pressure and Brady does not get his hot read, the Giants win the game.Giants 24-21MVP: A defensive player, either defensive ends Justin Tuck or Osi Umenyiora. “One of those two will get three or four sacks or cause a fumble or two.”

n Jeff Campbell, Moniteau: I still say strong defense and the ability to run the ball wins football games. I think it can be a scorefest, though. If Julian Edelman is covering Victor Cruz in the slot, it’s going to be a long day for the New England defense.Giants, 35-28MVP: Eli Manning•

Ed Conto, Karns City — I’d have to go with New England because of Bill Belichick and Tom Brady. Tom Coughlin has been there before, too. New England got hot at the end and so did the Giants.Patriots 21-14MVP: Wes Welker•

Brendan Hathaway, Slippery Rock — I can’t root for the Patriots and I don’t know if Gronk (Rob Gronkowski) can’t go, it’ll be the Giants.Giants 27-18MVP: Eli Manning•

Jeff Bell, Grove City — You can’t count out Wes Welker. He comes up big in big games and I’m not a big fan of the NFC.Patriots 34-27MVP: Wes Welker•

Steve Sherer, Summit Academy — I think it will be very hard to stop Tom Brady. Their running back, BenJarvis Green-Ellis, his last game he was pretty good running the ball.Patriots 24-21MVP: Rob Gronkowski•

George Mihalik, Slippery Rock University — The Giants have the defense and a pass rush that can get to Tom Brady.Giants, 24-17MVP: Eli Manning•

Scott Heinauer, Mars — Patriots 35-28.MVP: Tom Brady
