Free Outdoor Discovery programs, hosted by the Butler County Parks and Recreation Department, take place Thursdays at Alameda Park. The program for tonight will be Pennsylvania Wilderness Search and Research at 6:30 p.m. in the Carousel Shelter. Call 724-284-5383 or visit www.co.butler.pa.us. The program for July 23 is SurfSup Adventures, which will begin at 7 p.m. at the Alameda Waterpark.

Jennings Environmental Education Center, Route 528, Brady Township, will host EYE Con Summer Science Camp from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 3 to 7; registration is required. Celebrate the Bloom! activities will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday. Jennings is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and on weekends as scheduled. The trails are open daily from sunrise to sunset. Succop Nature Park, formerly the Succop Conservancy, 185 W. Airport Road, Penn Township, has trails open from dawn to dusk, with dog-friendly walking trails, two ponds and spaces for outdoor activities and education. E-mail rhandel@aswp.org or visit www.aswp.org.

Moraine State Park, Muddy Creek Township, will be the site of “Bats in Action” from 8 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Route 528. Explore Offshore nature-based kayaking will be from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Sunday. Call the park office at 724-368-8811.

The Regatta at Lake Arthur will be from Aug. 1 to Aug. 2. There is no admission or parking charge, and many events are free, including outdoor and family activities.

McConnells Mill State Park in Slippery Rock Township, just over the county line into Lawrence County off Route 422, has the gristmill open through the end of September from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays. Interpretive tours are available at 1 and 3 p.m. Interpretive tours for groups may be scheduled by calling the Moraine park office at 724-368-8811.

Star Parties sponsored by the Amateur Astronomers Association of Pittsburgh are scheduled to begin, weather permitting, at about 8:40 p.m. July 24 and 25 at the Nicholas E. Wagman Observatory in Deer Lakes Regional Park near the village of Russellton. Star Parties are held weather permitting. Call 724-224-2510.
