ZELIENOPLE — Families and friends will be able to gather for the 24th annual Country Fall Festival on Oct. 11 and 12 in the borough's business district.

Borough council on Monday approved this year's event, which will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 11 and noon to 5 p.m. Oct. 12.

Festival events will be at the four corners park in Zelienople and along Main Street, which is Route 19, and along Mercer Street in Harmony.

Festival organizer Ethel May Hall said it will be similar to last year's event with a few new surprises, including World War II reenactors joining several Civil War and Western frontier demonstrations.

The newest attraction will be an art walk, where artists will display their works.

Ron Carter of the Strand Theater told borough council that organizers will look for an event to bring more foot traffic to the southern end of the borough.

Artisans will be able to display and sell their artworks for both days of the festival.

Some old favorites also will return to the Country Fall Festival. The Strand Theater will kick off its annual Northern Nightmare Halloween Tours, which visits sites between Zelienople and Harmony that are said to be haunted.

All proceeds go to renovate the historic theater in Zelienople.

Other traditional events and displays include sidewalk sales, arts and crafts booths, petting zoo, games, clowns, kids pedal power tractor pull, farmers market, German dinners, the annual chili cook-off, antiques and collectibles, a log sawing contest, bridal and prom fashion show and a family health fair.

A horse-drawn trolley will take people around the park, while two days of live entertainment are planned.

The Harvest Dance, featuring oldies, will be held at the Zelienople American Legion, 308 W. New Castle St., from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday.

Stores in both Zelienople and Harmony will be open.
