John L. Benson
John L. “Benny” Benson, 65, of North Washington passed away unexpectedly at his residence Friday, April 7, 2017.
Benny was born Sept. 28, 1951 in Butler.
He was the son of the late Edgar William Benson and the late Mildred Amanda Eyth Benson.
Benny was a 1969 graduate of Karns City High School and had been employed at Butler Forge and retired from Butler Fabricating.
He was a member of the North Washington Presbyterian Church, the Sons of the American Legion Post 243, the Parker City Allegheny Valley Lodge 521 and a former member of the Chicora and Petrolia Volunteer Fire Departments.
All who knew Benny knew his passion was the North Washington Volunteer Fire Department where he was a life member and served the department faithfully in many different capacities.
Benny is survived by his wife of 32 years, Colleen Slater Benson, whom he married May 26, 1984; two sons, Michael (Danielle) Benson of Waynesburg and Brian Benson of Hooker; and one grandson expected in August.
Also surviving are one sister, Sandra Benson of Chicora; two brothers, Leonard Benson of Worthington and James Benson of Chicora; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
BENSON — The family of John L. “Benny” Benson, who died April 7, 2017, will receive friends at the William F. Young Funeral Home, 132 Main St., from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Robert Edmundson, his pastor, officiating assisted by retired pastor, the Rev. Robert V. Mathias.
Burial will be in the Concord Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations be made to the North Washington Volunteer Fire Department or the North Washington Presbyterian Church.
