Hilda Wilma (Kern) Vawryk, 90, of West Chester, Pa., formerly of Butler, passed away Sunday at her home.

She was born Aug. 10, 1922, in Lyndora, daughter of the late Stephan Kern and Mary Janisch Kern.

She graduated from Butler High School in 1941. She married John Vawryk in 1946. She lived on her farm for 55 years before moving to West Chester in 2011. She loved reciting the rosary daily and attending church. She loved reading, learning, gardening, cooking, traveling, attending concerts at Chautauqua, the beach, movies, playing Scrabble, Chinese Checkers, cards, etc. She supported several charities, taught first grade Sunday School at St. Peter’s Church for more than a decade and was a loving and kind example to her family and friends.

She is survived by her two daughters, Christine Wolf Abraham (the late Abie) of Renfrew and Cynthia Mary Rietz (David) of West Chester, Pa.; three grandsons, John David Wolf, Daniel Patrick Wolf (Irma) and Andrew Jacob Rietz; three step-grandchildren, David William Rietz, John Jacob Rietz (Connie) and Stephanie Rietz Hutchison (Larry); three great-grandchildren, five step great-grandchildren, and relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Vawryk; four brothers, Steve, Louis, Harry and Albert Kern, and one sister, Mary Malesh.

VAWRYK — A viewing for Hilda Wilma (Kern) Vawryk, who passed away Sunday, May 26, 2013, will be at Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. A mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 127 Franklin St., Butler. Interment will be at Butler County Memorial Park. Afterward, there will be a luncheon at St. Peter's Church Hall.Family requests contributions to be made to St. Peter's Catholic Church, St. Vincent de Paul or another charity.Information also is available at www.geibelfuneralhome.com.
