Lancaster Twp family wins Eagle Bowl at farm show

CONNOQUENESSING TWP — The Kerr family of Lancaster Township is this year’s winner of the Eagle Bowl at the Butler Farm Show.

The award has been sponsored by the Butler Eagle since 1952.

The family took home the award, which is presented to the family judged to have had the highest degree of success at the farm show.

Jim and Patty Kerr, along with their children Nataleigh, 18, Mitchell, 16, Madilynn, 12, and Katelyn, 9, all participated in the show together for the first time.

The family brought with them 23 animals.

“It’s an honor,” Jim Kerr said about the title.

Families are judged on sportsmanship, volunteerism and a high level of involvement by all members of the family.

The Kerr family farms about 350 acres at their home on Nine Hill Road, producing corn, soy, oats, and hay as primary crops. The children also grow pumpkins and participate in 4-H activities.

In a statement, the Butler Farm Show Awards Committee said: “The Jim and Patty Kerr family entered multiple departments with diverse entries. Their agricultural activities were not limited to this Farm Show but extended to the local community and countywide 4-H programs.”

It was the fifth year the family participated in the farm show, but it was the first and last time all six will participate together.

“Katie just started and Nataleigh is going off to college in a couple days,” Patty Kerr said. “This is kind of a ‘last hurrah’ for the family.”

Katelyn made quite the entrance to the farm show, claiming the Little Miss Butler Farm Show title.
