LIGONIER — Cranberry Township residents Nicklaus and Hogan Cuny both fared well at a junior golf tournament at Ligonier Country Club on Thursday.

Nicklaus Cuny won the Boys 14 division after carding a 37-36-73.

Hogan Cuny (37-37-74) tied Sewickley's Jordan Milo for first place in the Boys 15-16 division. Milo would later win on the first playoff hole.

BRIDGEPORT — Grove City College graduate Lauren Baur has been named 2011 NCAA Division III Scholar-Athlete of the Year by the Collegiate Water Polo Association.Baur scored 28 goals and assisted on 26 others for Grove City (17-12, 9-1), which won its second straight league title. She had 80 goals and 68 assists in her career with the Wolverines.Baur achieved a 3.69 grade point average while majoring in molecular biology at GCC.

ATLANTA — The NCAA put Georgia Tech on four years of probation, fined the school $100,000 and stripped its ACC title game victory from the 2009 football season for violations that also included problems in the men's basketball program.Georgia Tech did not lose scholarships and was not ruled ineligible for postseason games in either sport.

BOSTON — Red Sox slugger David Ortiz and Baltimore pitcher Kevin Gregg were suspended four games and fined for their parts in a July 8 bench-clearing brawl.Orioles pitcher Mike Gonzalez was suspended three games, and manager Buck Showalter was suspended one game as part of the punishment handed out Thursday by Major League Baseball. Gregg and Gonzalez have decided to appeal, delaying the suspensions; Ortiz was not immediately available for comment.
