Mary A. Vardy
Mary A. Vardy, 89, formerly of Chicora, passed away Friday.
She was born June 27, 1925, in DuBois, the daughter of the late Leonard Garthwaite and Rose (Reisinger) Garthwaite.
She met her one and only sweetheart at 12 years old and they married April 13, 1944. She worked alongside her husband and son at their auto body shop for many years and devoted her time to her family and grandkids. Mary enjoyed crocheting and gardening, cutting grass and going to yard sales. In her later years, she had made her home with her son, William, and her daughter, Kathy.
Surviving are two daughters, Rose (William) Staley of Connoquenessing and Kathy Wolabaugh of Prospect; one son, William (Sara) Vardy of Chicora; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther LeRoy Vardy, who died June 16, 2000; one granddaughter; four brothers; three sisters; and her son-in-law.
VARDY — Friends of Mary A. Vardy, who died Friday, Jan. 30, 2015, will be received at the Young Funeral Home, 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler on Sunday from noon until time of service at 3 p.m. with the Rev. James Boos of Mt. Nebo Presbyterian Church officiating.Private interment in the Greenlawn Burial Estates, Butler.
