John B. “Bernie” Leinenbach

John B. “Bernie” Leinenbach, 88, of Butler died Sunday at the Chicora Medical Center.

Born Oct. 30, 1929, in Butler, he was a son of the late Joseph and Helen (Conrad) Leinenbach.

John had worked as a salesman for Magnetics in East Butler, retiring in 1994. He was also the owner and operator of Leinenbach's General Store in Herman.

He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church in Herman, where he was an usher.

He was a member of various clubs in the Butler area, was a notary public for many years, was past president for the Magnetics Federal Credit Union and had sponsored a men's softball team.

He enjoyed camping, boating, fishing, gambling, picnics and attending family gatherings.

A veteran of the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Army.

Surviving are his six children, John B. (Terri) Leinenbach Jr. of Chicora, Anita (Joe) Stevenson of Slippery Rock, Keith (Sue) Leinenbach of Cabot, Bruce (Renea) Leinenbach of Fredonia, N.Y., Gay (Rich) Hawkey of Butler, and Brian Leinenbach and his companion, Crystal, of Lyndora; two stepchildren, Michael (Christine) Jones, and Debra Doutt, and her companion Jason; 15 grandchildren; four step grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; one brother, James Leinenbach of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and one brother-in-law, Les (Sally) Passarelli of Saxonburg.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wives, Gail J. (Fry) Leinenbach and Gloria J. Passarelli Jones; one son, Blase F. “Butch” Leinenbach; two daughters, Gail and Brenda Leinenbach; one brother, Joe “Regis” Leinenbach; and one sister, Helen Oesterling.

LEINENBACH — Friends of John B. “Bernie” Leinenbach, who died Sunday, April 1, 2018, will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.Private funeral services will be held for his family. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Herman.Donations may be made to Butler Meals on Wheels, 218 E.
