MIDDLESEX TWP —- Fire hit a duplex on Route 8 just after 1 p.m. Thursday.

Township Fire Chief Andy Huerbin said officials have not determined how the fire started in a second story bedroom.

He said his team was able to put the fire out in about 10 minutes and damage was limited to one room. However, he could not immediately provide a damage estimate.

The duplex where the fire was is rented by Christy Blackham.

She said her 13-year-old son, William, occupies the bedroom where the fire started.

In addition to William, three of Blackhams' other children are still minors and live with her inside the duplex: Lucas, 17; Vicky, 12, and Rhama, 10. They all were at school at the time the fire started.

There were no injuries.

Assisting Middlesex Fire Department were firefighters from Penn Township, Adams Area, Saxonburg and South Butler. West Deer Township 3 assisted by manning the Middlesex station while the crew was out.

Butler Ambulance Service and township police also assisted.
