Veronica J. "Verna" Delano

Veronica J. “Verna” Delano, 95, of East Brady died Wednesday at the Chicora Medical Center.

Born May 31, 1919, in Ginter, she was the daughter of Stephen J. and Agnes A. (Dija) Poshedly.

On June 21, 1941, Verna married the late Arthur M. Delano at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Cleveland, Ohio. He preceded her in death on June 3, 2001.

Verna first worked at Montgomery Ward in Butler, then as a cashier at Kroger in Kittanning and later in Butler for 34 years.

She was the oldest member of St. Eusebius Roman Catholic Church, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister, taught CCD for 30 years and was a member of the former Ladies Guild.

Verna enjoyed visiting local nursing homes, always making patients smile. She was the former secretary of the Bradys Bend Historical Society, loved tending her garden, enjoyed traveling. but above all dearly loved her grandchildren.

She is survived by her two sons, Arthur M. (Rhonda) Delano of Sugarcreek Township and David R. Delano of Butler; four grandchildren, Jason (Tammi) Delano of Butler, Matthew (Nicole) Delano, M.D., of Grant, Mich., Benjamin (Mary Theresa) Delano, M.D., of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Gina (Matt) Dunaway of Mars.

Verna is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren.

Verna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, eight brothers, five sisters and one grandson.

DELANO — Friends of Veronica J. “Verna” Delano, who died Wednesday, April 22, 2015, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Buechele Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 707 Kellys Way, East Brady. A parish prayer service will be in the funeral home at 3:30 p.m. Sunday.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday at St. Eusebius Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. William Kuba officiating. Burial will follow in St. Eusebius Cemetery.The Delano family suggests that contributions be made in Verna's name to the Bradys Bend Historical Society, P.O.
