KIRKLAND, Wash. - Seahawks safety Ken Hamlin was in serious but stable condition this morning with a fractured skull and other head injuries following a fight outside a downtown Seattle nightclub.
Hamlin's injuries included a small blood clot and bruising of the brain tissue. He was to remain in intensive care for the next day or two, team physician Stan Herring said.
The Seahawks' starting free safety was involved in an altercation with two men as he and his girlfriend were leaving Larry's Nightclub in the Pioneer Square section of Seattle at about 2 a.m., several hours after the Seahawks defeated Houston Monday.
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - Tedy Bruschi is ready to play football again, just eight months after a mild stroke left him unsure whether his life would ever return to normal.The Patriots linebacker said Monday he'll practice with the team Wednesday after doctors cleared him.Without Bruschi, the Patriots are 3-3 and have allowed the most points per game in the AFC.SAN ANTONIO (AP) - The New Orleans Saints fired vice president Arnold Fielkow, dismissing the executive who had been widely credited with orchestrating a string of sellouts spanning several seasons.Fielkow confirmed a report on WWL-TV's Web site that he was called into Benson's office and given 5 minutes to resign. The report said Benson offered to pay Fielkow the remainder of his contract if, within 5 minutes, Fielkow signed an agreement to keep his dealings with the team confidential. When Fielkow refused, he was fired.The Saints declined comment on the firing beyond their initial one-sentence news release stating that Fielkow was no longer associated with the team.HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) - Jets center Kevin Mawae will miss the rest of the season after tearing his left triceps against Buffalo.Mawae was hurt in the third quarter of a 27-17 loss Sunday when Sam Adams fell on his elbow. Coach Herman Edwards said Mawae will have surgery next week.The six-time Pro Bowl selection had started 177 straight games, third among active players behind Packers quarterback Brett Favre and Chiefs guard Will Shields.

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. - New York Knicks guard Allan Houston retired Monday, unable to recover from knee injuries that kept him out much of the last two seasons.A two-time All-Star and member of the 2000 Olympic team, Houston was limited to only 70 games over the last two seasons. The 34-year-old Houston appeared in only 20 games last season and averaged 11.9 points, his worst season since he was a rookie.
